Winner of the Hip-Hop Artist of the Year trophy at the 2019 iHeartRadio Music Awards, Cardi B, is not only known for her chart-topping tracks, but for her trademark catchphrases. We’ve heard them all from the Bronx bombshell on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and Carpool Karaoke on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

The Invasion of Privacy star is making it well-known that she is very fond of one particular catchphrase after she recently filed paperwork to trademark her signature, “Okurrr!”. Cardi and the catchphrase were the creative behind Pepsi’s hit Super Bowl commercial during Super Bowl LIII.

By filing a trademark on the word, “Okurrr”, Cardi is making money moves to protect the word in commercial use, a trademark also protects
phrases or symbols. By filing a trademark on her infamous catchphrase, Cardi wants to make sure she is the only one getting a money bag off the popular and personal phrase.

The Grammy award winner filed the application with the United States Patent and Trademark Office last month to reserve “Okurrr” for use on “paper goods, namely paper cups and posters,” according to the official application. Washpoppin Inc., a Cardi’s New York-based cosmetics company, was listed as the owner of the mark.

The Trademark Office will soon assign the mark to a Trademark Examiner, who will decide if Trademark protection is warranted. Because “Okurrr” is an unusual word it seems like there’s a pretty good chance it will go through, but we have to wait to see what the Trademark Examiner thinks! Hopefully she’ll know soon!
