IP Issues in Domain Names: How to Protect Your Internet Property

Learn how to snatch a domain name from someone who is holding it for ransom or committing cybersquatting.

Securing a domain name is a process very different from securing a trademark, yet both are related in ways this presentation will explore. This presentation will seek to educate and empower you on best practices to ensure that your internet property and your intellectual property are both protected.

Presented by the Entrepreneurial Strategy Series and Gearhart Law.

Adam Samuel is a member of the New York and English Bars and a panelist deciding domain name cases for both the World Intellectual Property Organization and the Hong Kong International Arbitration Centre. He has decided 167 cases for WIPO and is probably around 200 in total. Adam has taught at the University of Westminster in England for the last decade including sessions on handling domain name disputes. He is also writes a regular bi-monthly column for Alternatives on various forms of alternative dispute resolution. Adam is in one of the oldest friends of Gearhart Law since his friendship with Richard pre-dates the law firm, going back to the late 1980s. He has also appeared on Passage to Profit. Oh and if we don’t keep him quiet, he will tell stories all afternoon.
