ASK THE INVESTORS: Everything You Need To Know About Getting Funding For Your Business Post-Pandemic

Presented by the Entrepreneurial Strategy Series and Gearhart Law.

Reports state that Post COVID investors have changed their strategies in how they invest in companies. Our esteemed panel consists of Angels and Venture Capitalists who can confirm truths and even dispel the myths about post pandemic investments! The panel will also let you what it takes in today’s current economic climate to get their attention and their support. The panel will also discuss investment trends from their unique perspectives post Covid.

KEY TAKE AWAYS FROM THE EVENT:

The pandemic reduced the geographical barrier to investing; many of the initial meetings between investors and companies can be done remotely, although as things progress some in-person meetings will be required.

This is still a people business and it’s a small community, be respectful.

Learn the terms, there are books and YouTube videos to help. Learn what’s in a term sheet, what a Cap Table is, etc.

If you haven’t been to a pitch competition do that before you talk to any investors. Ideally, go to one that the investor you’re interested in is attending.

3 TIPS FOR APPROACHING INVESTORS:

1.) Research the investors you’re interested in – make sure they invest in your type of project, and check if they have special considerations. For instance, some investors may invest only in tech, others may invest only in companies that have a woman in the C-suite. Start on their websites and go from there, find out as much as you can about them.

2.) Book office hours with the investors before you apply for capital from them. You can find out how on their websites and many of them have scheduling links on their websites.

3.) Have a great team. The investors stressed that the team can be even more important to them than the technology.
