Making Music Money: How Copyright Owners Get Paid for Their Music

Music royalties are generated for the many forms of distribution and reproduction of copyrighted songs. Royalties are a primary source of income for musicians, making it important for them to understand how to protect their copyrights and how to get paid. This presentation will explore these topics and more including how to use other people’s music for your business the right way.

Helen Smith is our event moderator. Helen Smith is a second year J.D. candidate at the Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University in White Plains, NY. She is studying to specialize in intellectual property and entertainment law. Helen interned with Jim Carolan as a catalog manager, learned more about the Music Modernization Act and the MLC, and handled royalty metadata. This past summer Helen was an intellectual property intern at Gearhart Law.
